Practice the skills that young children entering Kindergarten need to succeed. Listen to stories that develop literacy skills, do crafts that develop motor skills and learn new songs and rhymes to develop an awareness of phonics.

Songs bouncing and tickling rhymes help develop babies' large and fine motor skills. Story time will be followed by free play. Expectant parents are welcome.

Come and play chess with your friends - or meet new ones! If you have a chess board, you are welcome to bring it. All levels of skill welcome! In December, Alton and Bolton chess members will face off in a Grand Master Chess Tournament. More details soon!


DO-WRITE CLUB   Ages 6 - 12 years

This is a FREE, drop-in program.

AB Branch | 5 - 6 pm

This club brings together kids who like to write or would like to practice their writing skills. Do you have great stories going on inside your head and are just itching to share them? Or, do you have a great story to tell and just don't know where to start? This club will allow you the opportunity to brainstorm, create, draw and share all the things that inspire you.





Saturdays: November 5, 12, 19, 26

Alton Branch | 2 - 3 pm           FREE with advance registration

Lights! Camera! Action! Work in small groups to create a short Claymation style Stop Motion video featuring characters and sets designed by you. Recording devices will be provided or bring your own device(must have a camera and free stop motion app). Participants must commit to attending all four workshops in order to complete a video.

Bring your friends to play Minecraft  on the PC or test out some new games on the PS4 or Xbox One game consoles. Please note: Children must have an understanding of Minecraft on the PC.

Reading Buddies is a FREE 8 week registered program for children to spend time each week reading aloud with a trained buddy. For more information about this program, please contact; alternatively, Leo Scardicchio at 905-857-1400 ext. 239 by October 1.

READING RANGERS    Ages 5 - 10 years

This program is FREE with advance registration

This is a fun based activity program that encourages reading through discussion, activities and crafts. Children will explore the world through reading and hands-on study. Each week, they will choose an age and reading level-appropriate book to practice reading independently at home.

Stop by any branch of the library and show your support for the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces by writing a letter or designing a postcard with a short note to be sent to our troops overseas.

Watch your LEGO volcano erupt, build the biggest castle or complete a timed building challenge. Each week we will explore a different structure that can be built using LEGO and Mega Bloks. The activities in this program are designed for children ages 5 - 10 years; however, those under 5 are welcome to participate with adult accompaniment

Create a Walter Wick-inspired "I Spy" book with a theme. Build miniature sets from objects provided for photo shoots. From the photographed sets, we will write rhymes for the text of the illustrated, collaborative book. Digital cameras will be provided or bring your own.

Goin' on a ghost hunt...gonna catch a spooky one...we're not scared...are you?

Make your way through a series of obstacles as we bring the book 'We're Going on a Ghost Hunt' to life through a spooktacular story walk. Find  the ghost at the end and collect a tasty treat as your reward. Allergy alert

Learn basic concepts of coding and computer science with fun game-like tutorials featuring characters from Star Wars. At the end of the hour, you should be able to construct your own mini computer game.

This program matches youth with a variety of engaging, age-appropriate volunteer opportunities throughout the year at all branches. Students must attend volunteer orientation in order to volunteer with the library.


All students interested in volunteering must send an email to one week prior to registration.

Please note: registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis; all participants must have a parent/guardian present for first 30 minutes of orientation.

Are you between the ages of 12 and 17? Do you want to earn community hours, build relationship skills and meet new teens in your community? Be sure to join CPL’s TAG (Teen Advisory Group) where you can suggest/implement additions or changes to our teen collections as well as recommend teen programs and events. Please contact Natalie for more information.



Every year, CPL invites youth in high school to create short films in any genre. Prizes are awarded in a  
variety of categories. This contest culminates in a special screening of all films, bringing together all participants, teachers, mentors, friends, family and  CPL staff.  SUBMISSION DEADLINE is Wednesday, February 1, 2017. Submit today!
