Just in time for Family Literacy Day, the Libraries of Peel Region are pleased to announce that Spork, written by Kyo Maclear, illustrated by Isabelle Arsenault and published by Kids Can Press, is their unanimous choice for the first ever Three Communities One Story community read collaboration - check out the video of the launch on the CPL Facebook page!
This “multi-cutlery” picture book is a humorous and lively commentary on individuality and tolerance. Its high-spirited illustrations capture the experience and emotions of anyone who has ever wondered about their place in the world.
Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga Libraries will offer families the opportunity to participate in library programs, have great discussions, celebrate literacy and join in a special wrap up party with Spork’s author Kyo Maclear on June 22 at Brampton Library’s Chinguacousy Branch. Everyone is welcome to attend the free programs.
Author Kyo Maclear commented: It is almost ten years since Spork came into the world and I am delighted—DELIGHTED!—to share our story with a new group of children. I wrote this "multicutlery" tale for my own children, our very multiracial family, and for anyone who has ever felt they don't quite fit in. Celebrate the unknown! Embrace the non-binary! Welcome your own uncategorizable spirit! Thank you Three Communities One Story for sharing Spork. I am so looking forward to meeting you in June in Brampton!
