Are you a member of a book club and looking for your club’s next great read? Well then you’ve come to the right place! Check one of CPL’s ninety-nine borrowable Book Club in a Bag Sets.
Let me tell you a bit about the program…each set contains five or more copies of the book (often up to ten) and select sets contain an audiobook and/or a large print copy. You’re able to borrow sets for an eight-week loan period and if you send an email to Information Services Coordinator, Paul Ornstein in advance, he’ll likely let you extend the loan period. The responsibility of the set will be with the customer who checks the set out under their card and CPL does charge for damaged or lost materials.

Here is a sampling of a few of my favourite titles that are included in the collection:
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is a wonderful and heart-wrenching book set in Nazi Germany in 1939—a dangerous time to hide a Jew in your basement. Markus Zusak also wrote a YA book called I Am the Messenger that I loved and that you can borrow from CPL. The Book Thief was made into a movie in 2013 starring Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson.
The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman is a lot of fun and the first title in the new series. The novel follows four septuagenarians living together in a retirement village trying to solve a murder. The second title in the series is called The Man Who Died Twice and is also available to borrow from CPL.
The Whisper Man by Alex North is a mystery novel and it’s haunting and creepy. It’s a frightening tale of a father and son caught up in an investigation to catch a serial killer. Alex North has written a newer novel called The Shadows and it’s also available to borrow from CPL.
You can also download a Book Club Discussion Guide for use with your group. Click here and then click on the book that you’re interested in and you’ll be redirected to a PDF Discussion Guide created by the CPL team for that specific book.
Click here to open up a Google spreadsheet that will show the available dates for each set. Make a note of this date, so that you can submit a request for the set at least 3 days before you want to pick it up.
