Caledon, ON – It is with mixed emotions that Caledon Public Library (CPL) announces the retirement of a stalwart member of its team, Mary Maw, Communications & Community Development Manager, as of the end of December 2023.
“Working at CPL for over 35 years, Mary has made significant contributions to the library’s mission of promoting literacy, knowledge, and cultural enrichment in the Caledon community”, states Colleen Lipp, Caledon Public Library’s CEO & Chief Librarian. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mary for her significant contributions to the success and growth of Caledon Public Library. Her dedication and passion have left an indelible mark on our organization.”
Mary started her journey at CPL in 1979 as a student page excelling in various roles, including working in the AV department, Circulation, Children’s Services, Technical Services, then becoming the Public Service Manager, Bolton Branch Manager, and finally, her current role as Manager of Communications and Community Development.
“I am immensely grateful for the opportunities and experiences that I have had during my tenure at Caledon Public Library. It has been an honour to contribute to the transformative power of libraries and witness their impact on individuals and the community”, says Mary Maw. “Of all the many momentous milestones with CPL, I am most proud of my Communications team winning two Angus Mowat Awards of Excellence as part of Ontario Public Library Service Awards for our 2010 Salute to Seniors celebration and our 2016 Click•Create•Celebrate initiative. Another favourite of mine was in 2018 when CPL celebrated the important milestone of 150 years of continuous service to Caledon with a full year of special events and programming, culminating in a 150th Homecoming party to honour library staff, board members, supporters and champions. It certainly served as a reminder to the community of what a vital role CPL has played in Caledon’s history.”
“On behalf of the Board, I want to express our appreciation for Mary’s commitment to excellence and her role in shaping CPL into the esteemed institution it is today,” adds Tony Maxwell, Caledon Public Library Board Chair. “We wish her a fulfilling and joyous retirement.”
Looking forward to retirement, Mary’s future plans include spending more time with family and friends, satisfying wanderlust with RV adventures, giving back to the community through volunteering, and a hopeful plan to march in the parade when the Leafs finally win that elusive Stanley Cup.
Expressing her appreciation for the incredible journey, Mary shares, “The very best part of working at CPL for all of these years has been working with the kindest, dedicated, most passionate colleagues who make a difference in our community every day.”
