Volunteering

Volunteering with the Caledon Public Library is a great way to connect with others and learn new skills while making a difference in our community! Our volunteers are a vital asset to our organization and we are happy to offer volunteer opportunities to both teens (ages 14+) and adult volunteers (ages 18+).

Friends of Caledon Public Library

The Friends of Caledon Public Library support the library by coordinating book sales. They support writing contests and seniors’ events and have in the past purchased computer upgrades and software, shelving racks, computer chairs, furniture for reading areas, special additions to library collections, bike racks and book club sets for branches and community groups.

Teen Volunteers

Qualifications for the Teen Volunteer Program
Do the following statements apply to you? Then you’d be the perfect Teen Volunteer!

You are a resident of Caledon, or are attending a Caledon high school, age 13-17

You demonstrate a passion for community involvement, especially within a library setting

You are conscientious, reliable and independent

You demonstrate strong communication skills, verbal and written

You are open to learning new skills and undertaking new opportunities

You require minimal direction once a task has been assigned

You are able to work well individually or as part of a team in order to fulfill assigned tasks

Casual Office Assistant - Not Available
Required Age: 14+

Assist with general office tasks ranging from program material preparation to organizing and sorting.

Tasks required may include: cutting out craft material, preparing examples/templates of crafts, drawing or painting pictures/materials, counting ballots, filing documents, and testing out program activities.
Children's Program Assistant - Not Available
Required Age: 14+

Assist with in-person Children’s Programming with more opportunities available during the Summer months.

Volunteers will be tasked with assisting children with a variety of hands on activities during in-person programming.
Reading Buddies - Not Available
Required Age: 14+

Read together with a child one-on-one to practice their reading.

Program runs for 45 minutes and registration is limited to the availability of Teen Volunteers.
Tech Teens - Not Available
Required Age: 14+

Volunteer with technology-based children and tween programs throughout the year.

Also host our Tech Savvy Teens program and assist customers weekly with their various technological needs.

Caledon East Library

Experience with social media accounts, Microsoft Office, downloading eBooks, 3D printing and coding is recommended.

Must be comfortable with speaking to customers of all ages

Successful candidates can expect that commitments to volunteering in a Tech Savvy Teen capacity will consist of a pre-determined length of time.
Teen Advisory Group (TAG) Volunteer - Not Available
Required Age: 14+

Gain experience helping to plan and run events aimed at teens as a member of the Teen Advisory Group (TAG).

TAG volunteers are expected to actively participate in sharing opinions and providing feedback re the library’s teen programming, collections, and much more.

Members must be able to make a 10 month commitment

Members must be able to attend a monthly Zoom meeting.

Teen Reviewer - Not Available
Required Age: 14+

Write reviews for YA books and video games (rated E and T). Items reviewed must be currently in the library collection (in physical and/or digital format) and have been released in the past year.

The reviews will be promoted on our Teen Instagram account @teensofcpl. Each submitted review will earn 2 hours of volunteer service.

Visiting Library Service

Our Visiting Library Service is designed to bring library materials to members of the community who have difficulty visiting a library branch. Visiting library service customers have the opportunity to borrow a wide range of materials selected by library staff based on their interests and needs. The material is then delivered to the community members homes by a volunteer. The service is free to residents who have a valid Caledon Public Library card.
