CPL library cards are free to all who live, work, attend school, or own property in the Town of Caledon. Just show proof of your name and current address to sign up.

Membership is also available to those who live or own property in municipalities bordering the Town of Caledon.

About Your Card

Registration Requirements
In order to register as a member of the Caledon Public Library, one piece of valid personal identification displaying the applicant’s current address must be verified.
Your card can be issued and may be used at any branch of Caledon Public Library
Your card allows you to check out library materials or place a hold on library materials, at any branch of Caledon Public Library
There is no age limit to becoming a member of Caledon Public Library
A valid Caledon Public Library card must be presented each time materials are borrowed.
You are responsible for all items checked out on your card
Children's Cards
The parent or guardian accepts responsibility for:

child’s use of all library services and materials

all items checked out on the child’s card

all fines and fees incurred on the child’s card

Children 12 years and under require a parent’s or guardian’s consent and identification plus the parent to obtain a library card.
Out of Town Membership Options
Membership is also available without charge to those who live or own property in one of the following municipalities bordering the Town of Caledon:

City of Brampton

City of Vaughan

Town of East Garafraxa

Town of Erin

Town of Halton Hills

Town of Mono

Town of New Tecumseth

Town of Orangeville

Township of Adjala-Tosorontio

Township of King

A $50 yearly non-resident fee applies to all other cards regardless of age.
Renewing a Library Card

Library cards are valid for one (1) year from date of issue, at which time they may be renewed. Any changes in patron information must be verified with valid identification and any outstanding charges must be paid at time of renewal. You can renew your card either over the phone or in person at any branch, however, Identification or payment must be processed during first post-renewal visit if membership is renewed by phone.
Damaged, Lost and Stolen Cards
There is a $3 replacement fee for lost or stolen cards

All lost or stolen cards and/or key tags are to be reported immediately

You are responsible for all items checked out on your card, or your child’s card until it is reported lost or stolen
Library Card Agreement
When you get a library card you are agreeing to:

accept all rules and regulations of Caledon Public Library

pay all fines and fees incurred

pay for all lost or damaged materials

report any lost or stolen cards and/or key tags

advise the library of any changes in personal contact information

confirm personal information on an annual basis
Your Privacy

Personal information is collected under the authority of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and will be used, disclosed, and retained only as necessary for the administration of Library services, programs, or activities, and for purposes consistent with that authority.

About Borrowing

Holds
Any patron with a valid Caledon Public Library membership may request, without charge, a hold for any eligible item listed in the catalogue:
Holds can be placed in person, by phone, email or by using the library’s online or mobile catalogue
Notification of holds is provided by either phone or email
Upon notification that a requested item is available, patrons have 7 days to pick up items.
Patrons MUST bring the card on which the hold was placed when checking out the item
Requests for items not available at Caledon Public Library may be made through Interlibrary loan
Loan Periods
Typical loan periods are listed below (for Library of Things, please review the item’s descriptor):

21 days: Books, CDs (audiobooks & music) and some eBooks/eAudiobooks

14 days: some eBooks/eAudiobooks

7 days: DVDs, Fast Lane-Print, Magazines and videogames

3 days: Fast Lane-DVDs

Please see your checkout receipt or your online library account for exact dates.
Renewals and Returns
Renewing Library Materials:

Most library materials may be renewed in person, by phone or online

Generally, library print and audiovisual materials may be renewed 5 times as long as they have not been requested by another patron.

Games and recent DVDs are renewed for 7 days; classic DVDs will be renewed for 21 days

Returning Library Materials:

Library items must be returned on or before the due date

Outside book drops are available at most branches

Materials borrowed from one branch may be returned to any other branch
Charges
The Town of Caledon Council has approved the elimination of overdue fines completely in an effort to support the social and economic recovery of residents and reduce barriers to library use.

Outstanding balances are also forgiven.

Customers are still responsible for the replacement cost of lost or damaged materials.
